Sailing can be exciting, relaxing, stimulating, peaceful and just plain fun.
There are very few places on the east coast of Scotland which have better natural features for sailing than Rosehearty. If you sail from the likes of Stonehaven or Banff, you have no choice but to go out on the open sea. At Rosehearty there is a body of water which is enclosed by a harbour wall and a large reef. Even when the wind blows from the North, the waves break on the reef and the water within Port Rae is calm. Also unlike Peterhead, there are no fishing boats or oil related traffic to dodge.
Our Yole, Lugger and motor boat are kept on moorings in Port Rae during the season and are available when the tide is right. Our other boats are kept on trolleys and launched when required. Experienced adult sailors can make arrangements to use these boats at suitable times. Adults who wish to learn can make arrangements to go out in the Lugger and be shown the ropes.
Our sailing in small boats, Optimists and Toppers, takes place in the sheltered waters of Port Rae. Our larger boats have the option to go further out to sea when the weather is suitable. All sailing times are dictated by the state of the tide and in Port Rae, there is enough water roughly three hours either side of high tide.
For a number of years we have introduced youngsters to sailing by providing courses of instruction during the school summer holidays. These courses are run by Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust. Youngsters who graduate from these courses can make arrangements to use our small boats at other times.
It is our aim to help others to enjoy what we enjoy - the many pleasures of sailing. If you would like to join us, give us a call.
